BDA DAS Primer For Property Management

BDA DAS Primer For Property Management

    What Is BDA DAS?

A bi-directional amplifier (BDA) is an amplifier which boosts signal in 2 ways, enhancing in-building public safety radio frequency signal strength. DAS (distributed antenna system) is a network of antennas linked by cable to the BDA which sends and receives radio transmissions. A BDA-DAS system ensures constant and clear public safety first responder in-building radio communication.

Which Florida Law Mandates Minimum Public Safety Radio Communications Coverage Requirements?

In the State of Florida, Property management must maintain code compliance with NFPA 1221 [2016]. NFPA 1221 mandates in-building emergency responder radio communications coverage levels of 99% in critical areas and 90% in general areas. In addition to NFPA 12221, property managers must meet a set of unique requirements set forth by the local AHJ, or authority having jurisdiction.

What Does BDA DAS Mean For Property Management?

BDA DAS represents a new set of State and local code mandates which require that your property meets minimum emergency responder radio frequency communications coverage requirements. Additionally, the enforcement of codes mandating BDA DAS means that you must conduct in-building signal coverage testing in order that your local authority having jurisdiction may determine whether your building meets local code coverage requirements.

When Does My Property Require A BDA System?

As a property management company, you must conduct public safety radio signal coverage testing through a certified BDA testing company. Based upon your testing results, a local authority having jurisdiction must determine whether your property meets or fails minimum coverage requirements. In the event that your local authority having jurisdiction determines that your property meets coverage requirements, you will not require a BDA. In the event that the local jurisdiction having authority determines that your property requires public safety radio signal coverage enhancement, you must implement a BDA DAS system.
